Sound System Empress Aza Lineage Teams Up with Producer VStheBest for Hip Hop Inspired Mixtape
Kingston Jamaica – Known for her lyrical prowess and expansion of knowledge through spoken word, Aza Lineage has become one of Kingston Jamaica’s most prolific female reggae artistes. Most recently, Aza has teamed up with Hip-hop producer VStheBest for “AVCA” fusing the foundation of two cultures, Jamaica’s raw Sound System vibe with an old-school Hip Hop sound.
The idea for the 25 track mixtape came about when Hip Hop producer VStheBest215, first worked with Aza on the 2018 release “Black Madonna.” That production spurred a symbiotic working relationship between the two when VS noticed Aza’s edgy lyrical flow. VStheBest215, a longtime fan of the group A Tribe Called Quest, leaned on Tribe’s familiar beats as the creative foundation behind “AVCA.” “The inspiration for the mixtape and the vibe comes from our connection to the tradition that really stems from sound system culture,” says Vaughn.
“AVCA” opens with an ominous introduction to Aza’s flow, serving as a thorough showcase of her talents. As the listener continues, the experience is a journey of association of the legendary beats prevalent within Hip Hop and Aza’s regal style of storytelling, not uncommon within roots and culture music, prompting the listener for deeper self exploration.
The mixtape is a thorough exploration of Aza’s robust music catalog to date. Vaughn’s production expertise gives way to a synergistic compounding of strengths between the two, increasing the appeal for all Afrocentric tastes. “AVCA” doesn’t lack spiritual attunement with its Hip Hop remixes of Aza’s tracks “King of Kings,” “Smoke Weed Today,” “Africa” and more.
